Min Kyung Kim explores how social phenomena and power structures shape behavior and perception. Her work focuses on socio-cultural constructs such as norms, rules, conventions, gender, and class, critically examining the interplay of social myths, prejudice, and discrimination across diverse cultural contexts.
Her practice involves observing and collecting traces inscribed in the human body and living spaces, using everyday objects, events, and materials as the subject of her work. Within spatially and temporally defined contexts, she experimentally reconfigures, recontextualizes, or theatrically restages these elements through time-based media like video, photography, and performance. Through this process, she visualizes the interplay between individuals and social structures, reexamining the human condition within contemporary systems. She also actively engages in art education to foster broader communication and reshape the relationship between art and its audience.
She studied printmaking at Hongik University in Seoul, fine art at the Kunstakademie Münster with Prof. Aernout Mik and finished a master's degree in Art in Context at the University of the Arts Berlin. She is a co-founder of the art collectives Co-Re(Contextual Research) and UmmU(Umbrella Museum), and is active as a member of collective Liebl and the experimental art group grru collective.
Since 2020, she has been involved in cultural education, running media literacy courses and art workshops for school students and children, such as 'Media against prejudice' program in Berlin-Charlottenburg and at the 'Kinderkunstzentrum' in Neukölln.
사회 현상과 권력 구조가 개인의 행동과 인식에 미치는 영향을 탐구합니다. 규범, 규칙, 관습, 성, 계급과 같은 사회문화적 구성에 관심을 갖고, 다양한 문화적 맥락 속에 존재하는 통념, 편견, 차별 등의 상호작용을 비판적으로 조명합니다.
사람의 신체와 생활 공간 속에 새겨진 기록을 관찰하고 수집하며, 마주한 일상적 사물이나 사건, 소재를 작업의 소재로 삼습니다. 이를 무대로 설정한 시공간적 맥락 안에서 비디오, 사진, 퍼포먼스 같은 시간 기반 매체를 사용하여 실험적으로 가공하고 재배치하거나 연극적으로 재연출 합니다. 이 과정을 통해 개인과 사회 구조 간의 상호작용을 가시화하여, 동시대 시스템 속 인간상을 재고하고자 합니다. 또한 예술과 향유계층의 관계를 재조명하고, 보다 폭넓은 소통을 촉진하기 위해 예술교육을 실천합니다.
서울 홍익대학교에서 판화를 전공하고, 뮌스터 쿤스트아카데미에서 아르나우트 믹(Aernout Mik) 교수와 함께 순수조형예술을, 베를린 예술 대학교에서 석사 과정 예술과 맥락을 공부했습니다. 예술 집단 코-레(Co-Re - Contextual Research)와 움무(UmmU - Umbrella Museum)의 공동 창립자이자 콜렉티브 리블(Collectiv Liebl)과 실험적 예술단체 그루 콜렉티브의 일원으로 활동하고 있습니다.
2020년부터 문화 교육 분야에서도 활발히 활동하며 베를린의 샤를로텐부르크에서 '편견에 대항하는 미디어' 프로그램과 노이쾰른의 '킨더큔스테첸트룸' 등 학생과 아동을 대상으로 미디어 리터러시 과정과 예술 워크숍을 진행하고 있습니다.
